Jenny Gilmore is a prominent Australian Social Worker with a PhD in Social Work and an extensive work history in the field which includes academia as a Lecturer in the School of Social Work and Social Policy at the University of Queensland and work in the not for profit sector as a Social Worker and Manager. She has worked in many areas including youth work, women’s issues, homelessness, violence issues and the disability sector and she is deeply committed to working with practitioners and communities to bring an end to violence affecting children, women, families and the entire community.
Jenny is in full time private practice and has a specific focus on work with adults and young people who are survivors of childhood trauma. In addition to this she works with adults who have experienced trauma through war and civil conflict and ongoing exposure to violence. She is also committed to her work with the not for profit sector to enhance quality service delivery by providing supervision, consultancy and training services.
Jenny’s research interests include the relationship between individual experiences of trauma and social and political systems; issues of subjectivity and social change; the impacts of trauma, violence and misuse of power; and the nature of the social services sector in a changing political, social and economic context.
